UPDATE: KEENER FACING PRISON SENTENCE FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER-WANTON ENDANGERMENT

4/8/2021 - In Calhoun Circuit Court this week, Calhoun Prosecutor Nigel Jefferies said, "Phillip Keener was set for sentencing upon his convictions for Attempt to Commit a Felony, to-wit: Second Degree Murder; and Wanton Endangerment with a Firearm."

In the Keener sentencing, Judge Anita Ashley imposed a term of incarceration of an indeterminate term of not less than one (1) nor more than three (3) years to run consecutive to a three (3) years determinate sentence. (See Original Stories)

KEENER ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER, WANTON ENDANGERMENT - Bond Set At $250,000

8/20/2019 - Calhoun authorities arrested Phillip Nathan Keener, 38 (above) of Poplar Road (Pine Creek) early Tuesday morning, following a shots fired incident at his residence.

He is facing attempted murder and wanton endangerment charges.

A criminal complaint says 911 alerted Calhoun Sheriff Jeff Starcher and Chief Deputy J. B. Chang that Keener had two firearms and was going to a Barnes Run residence to "to finish some business."

The report says that Douglas Parsons and Kyle Farrell had gone to the Keener residence for Farrell to obtain some personal items where the encounter started.

The complaint says Keener physically attacked Farrell, then going into his residence returning with a pistol, firing at them when they left the scene.

The gunfire struck the fleeing vehicle, says the complaint.

The Sheriffs Department and State Police responded to the victims residence on Barnes Run where Keener was reportedly headed.

The complaint says, Keener "Did fire a firearm at the subjects with intent to kill them."

Police spent some time searching for Keener. He was arrested for attempted murder and wanton endangerment and taken to Central Regional Jail.

Surety/cash bond has been set at $250,000.

CALHOUN AUTHORITIES RESPOND TO SHOTS FIRED CALL

8/19/2019 - The Calhoun Sheriffs Department and the West Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call about 10 p.m. Monday where numerous shots were reportedly fired by a person who left in a truck.

That person was reported to have two guns.

Reports did not say where the gunfire happened.

Calhoun Sheriff Jeff Starcher responded to a Barnes Run residence to what was described as a likely assault and battery situation.

Police were continuing to look for the suspect.

No other details available.

FARRELL ENTERS PLEA DEAL OVER SEX CHARGES

2021-04-08 - Roane County Prosecutor Josh Downey, who had been appointed special prosecutor in a case against Kyle Gregory Farrell, 22, said Farrell entered into a plea agreement related to numerous sexual offense violations.

Farrell has been ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender, agreeing to 10 years of extended supervision, along with two years probation FARRELL INDICTED NUMEROUS CHARGES

(07/09/2020) A Calhoun Grand Jury has indicted Kyle Gregory Farrell, 22, on four counts of sexual assault in the third degree, statutory, all felonies; three counts of use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct, all felonies; one count of the use of obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor, a felony; five counts of employment or use of minor to produce obscene matter or assist in doing sexually explicit conduct, all Felonies; and one count of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor.

The case was investigated by Deputy Wiley Raines of the Calhoun Sheriff’s Office, the charges initially brought in September, 2019.
