Submitted by David Weaver, Ox-Pit Master
Once again it is Ox Roast time, this years event will be Saturday August 24. We will be celebrating 60 years of memories and looking
forward to the future. Mt. Zion Community Park is located at 5801 South Calhoun Highway, Mt. Zion, WV.
We will start the week off on Monday August 19 at 9:00 a.m., to
clean the pit.
On Friday morning we will meet to start the fire at 6:00 a.m. and it will need tended and
stoked throughout the day. Between 5 and 6 pm we will meet to cut and wrap the meat and
place it in the pit. We cheerfully welcome all volunteers to come and join us.
On Saturday August 24 the work starts around 9:00 am with set up of the serving line and
getting things ready to go. We start serving at 11:00 am and serve until 5:00 pm when we
will close out the day with our annual auction.
We invite all crafters, at no charge, to come and set a table/canopy to sell local non food
items, all we ask is for an item to be donated to the fair and auction.
As in years past we need cakes to serve, tomatoes to slice and your fair exhibits. (Garden
vegetables, canned goods, craft items & misc.) Fair items will be judged and a grand
prize ribbon will awarded along with a roast from the pit.
We will have music by David Bowen. Corn Hole tournament is back this year. For more
information on the Corn Hole Tournament contact Sandy Weaver at 304-354-6217 or
message her on Facebook.
Most of all we need your help!
Please come join us for your Ox Roast. Invite your family, neighbors and friends. Help
spread the word. This is our major fundraiser for the year and the upkeep and
improvements of your community park depend on your participation.
