Broadband access will be expanded to nearly 900 unserved homes and businesses in five counties in West Virginia, the Federal Communications Commission announced.
The $6.5 million in funding was authorized by the FCC over the next decade.
It is part of the fourth wave of support from last yearâs “Connect America” project, according to a news release from the federal agency.
Following are the counties, the minimum speed of service, the amount of support and locations:
Greenbrier, one Gigabit per second/500 Megabits per second, more than $709,000, 57 locations.
Nicholas, one Gigabit per second/500 Megabits per second, more than $1.4 million, 211 locations.
Pocahontas, one Gigabit per second/500 Megabits per second, more than $177,000; 14 locations.
Taylor, one Gigabit per second/500 Megabits per second, more than $1.2 million, 294 locations.
Webster, one Gigabit per second/500 Megabits per second, more than $2.9 million, 322 locations.
Nationwide, the FCC authorized more than $121 million in funding over the next decade to expand broadband to more than 36,000 unserved rural homes and businesses in 16 states.
