MAN KILLED, STATE TROOPER SHOT - West Virginia State Police say a trooper was shot and a suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Pocahontas County. On Monday, August 05, 2019 at around 6 PM, Pocahontas County Sheriff J.P. Barlow was shot at by a suspect with a rifle, while investigating a single-vehicle traffic crash.
State Police say numerous law enforcement officers from adjoining counties responded to the scene and began searching a wooded area for the suspect. Trooper First Class J.M. Tallman from the West Virginia State Police Elkins Detachment encountered the suspect in the wooded area and was shot by the suspect in his abdominal area.
State Police say Tallman returned fire and killed the suspect. Tallman was life-flighted to a hospital. West Virginia Police State say that further information will be released as more information becomes available.
PARKERSBURG GUNFIRE - A Parkersburg man was arrested early Tuesday after a series of alleged crimes in Vienna, including one in which a homeowner fired a gun during a confrontation with the suspect.
Authorities charged Jacob M. Helmick Williams, 23, with one count of burglary, and he could face additional charges, Police Chief Mike Pifer said.
Police responded to 2302 16th Ave. about 5:30 a.m. to investigate a complaint of a disorderly person damaging a vehicle. When they arrived, officers also got a report of a burglary at 2304 16th Ave.
Minutes later, Pifer said officers heard what they believed to be gunshots nearby. While investigating, he said officers learned that a man had allegedly forced his way into a home at 1605 Forest Hills Drive.
Pifer said the homeowner confronted the man with a firearm and ordered him to go outside. That was followed by a confrontation outside the home, and Pifer said the homeowner fired a gunshot into the air before the suspect fled.
About an hour after the original incident, authorities arrested Helmick-Williams without incident after he was found hiding in a vehicle, Pifer said.
Pifer also said Helmick-Williams was wanted on a warrant for a parole violation.
He was taken to WVU-Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center before being taken to jail. He will arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court.
A Vienna Police K-9, Parkersburg Police and the Wood County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
MARTINSBURG MURDER/SHOOTINGS â One person is dead and two others are recovering from injuries after a Saturday night shooting in Martinsburg.
According to the Martinsburg Police Department, the incident happened before 9:30 p.m. behind the Moose Lodge on Woodbury Avenue. Martinsburg Police, deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriffâs Department and West Virginia State Police responded to the scene.
Kevin Gedeon and Montezz Lincoln, both 34, were found laying on the ground. A third person, 34-year-old Marty Liscombe, is being treated at Winchester Medical Center from gunshot wounds.
Police confirmed Sunday that Gedeon died at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia.
Authorities found a stolen .45 caliber handgun at the scene.
HUNTINGTON MURDER -
Tyler Zhea Asbury, 19, died after a weekend shooting in Huntington.
Officers are investigating the case as a homicide.
The incident started at the Hot Corner Bar in the 1400 block of 4th Avenue. Police say an altercation started inside the bar. The two groups involved eventually went outside. Investigators say the argument later escalated and Asbury was shot.
ARRESTED FOR SHOTS FIRED - A Charleston man was arrested for wanton endangerment after allegedly firing shots at a vehicle Sunday evening.
In a statement from Charleston Police Department, police say officers responded to the 1400 block of Lee Street in Charleston on Sunday evening for reports of gunshots.
Officers located a man matching the suspect's description in the 1500 block of Lee Street detained him.
The suspect was identified as Brandon Woodfell, 21, of Charleston. Police found a gun in Woodfell's waistband.
Woodfell explained to officers that he was robbed by an unknown man while attempting to buy marijuana, and when the robber took his money and fled, he fired two shots at the getaway vehicle.
No one was injured in the shooting.
Woodfell was arrested and charged with two counts of wanton endangerment.
SEVERAL FACING ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES - Multiple people are facing attempted murder charges after police said they were involved in an altercation where a man was beat, cut and stabbed outside of the BFS Foods in White Hall.
On Saturday, Bruce Davis, 53, of Fairmont; James Biggie, 37, of Rivesville and two other men engaged in a pre-planned confrontation with several other individuals in the parking lot of BFS Foods in White Hall, according to a criminal complaint filed by the White Hall Police Department.
Officers said that during the confrontation, Kenneth Murphy, of Hilton, New York, was stuck with a baseball bat and cut and stabbed with a knife. Murphy was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he was placed in a medically-induced coma and police said they are unsure if he will recover, according to court documents.
Officers said this information is based upon a police investigation which is supported by physical evidence, surveillance video, witness statements and personal observations.
Davis has been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit attempted murder, according to court documents. He is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail and his bail has been set at $750,000.
Biggie has been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to court documents. He is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail and his bail has been set at 1,000,000.
MAN TRIES TO KILL WOMAN - A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to kill a woman Saturday.
According to the criminal complaint, Chevy Ramsey told the victim that she was going to die. Ramsey was the ex-boyfriend of the victim.
According to deputies, Ramsey hit the victim in the back of her head and shot past her head intentionally. Ramsey also hit her in the face multiple times.
According to the criminal complaint, Ramsey passed out in her car. The victim ran and flagged a car down for help.
According to deputies, they found Ramsey asleep in the drivers seat. They woke him up and asked to see his hands.
According to the criminal complaint, Ramsey reached between the driver's seat and console, but then listened to commands and got out of the vehicle.
According to deputies, Ramsey openly admitted that there was a firearm in the car. Deputies found a firearm between the driver's side door and seat and a holster between the seat and console.
Ramsey has been charged with malicious assault and is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail.
