West Virginia has been breaking rainfall records.
The year 2018 proved to be an exceptionally wet one for West Virginia, with Charleston breaking its previous annual precipitation record by more than five inches, while Huntington and Elkins recorded their second-soggiest years.
But the nowhere in the state was precipitation more abundant last year than the Parsons area of Tucker County. There, between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, a National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program station recorded precipitation totaling 96.99 inches, shattering a previous state record that had stood for 92 years by nearly 8 inches.
