Minnie Hamilton Health System has partnered with the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department to implement the national "Stop the Bleed" safety program in the businesses, clubs, Churches, and the school system throughout Calhoun and surrounding counties.
Stop the Bleed, a national awareness campaign and a call to action, was launched at the White House in October 2015. Stop the bleed is intended to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empower to help in a bleeding situation before professional help arrives.
Studies show that the help given by an immediate responder can often make the difference between life and death, even before first rescue personnel arrive. The Bleeding Control Basic Course provides participants with the necessary tools to become empowered immediate responders.
Training kits are used during the 90 minute educational and training process and the packaged kits were provided to the schools in Calhoun, Gilmer, the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center, the Calhoun Bank, some area churches with help from Minnie Hamilton Health Systems and the Grantsville Vol. Fire Department and donations from the community at no cost.
