THREAT TO KILL - West Virginia State Police arrested an Upshur County man accused of making threats to a West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources worker.

According to troopers, on Monday, May 20, they received a terroristic threats complaint. Police spoke to a supervisor at the DHHR office, who stated that Richard Mealey, 48, of Buckhannon, called and made threats to the Buckhannon DHHR’s Child Protective Services Centralized Child Abuse Hotline. Mealey also threatened a specific employee, stating he was going to "take a bullet and shoot" the worker for ignoring his calls.

State Police then said Mealey told a worker that he had 9 months to live and had nothing to lose. According to a criminal complaint, Mealey said a worker was “going to read about this in the paper,” and that he lived close enough to the Buckhannon DHHR building that he could walk over and shoot the employee he mentioned.

Mealey is charged with terroristic threats. He is in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
