Floyd R. Martin who was married to the late Justine Martin passed away. Burial was in the Snyder (McCray) Cemetery at Creston.

Winter weather continues to be the rule in the Creston area with a return to snow and zero readings. Some seem to have forgotten that such winters, before Albert Gore Jr. & "Global Warming," were routine.

Nancy and Jane Engelke attended a pageant at Point Pleasant, Saturday evening.

The Creston Community organization held it's regular meeting on February 4. Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV presented the community a flag that had flown over the nation's capitol. A flagpole will be erected in the spring to fly this special flag. Ruby Sutton was instrumental in obtaining the flag - thank you Ruby.

There was additional discussion over the status of the Creston Post Office and routine matters were discussed. It was decided that there would be a sing on Saturday, March 8 and a committee was named to work out the route for the spring ATV poker run.

Mr. & Mrs. Glen Goff discussed the possible use of the Community Building as a Red Cross shelter during storms, floods, terror attacks, etc. President Eddie Norman conducted the meeting and Amy N. Ferrell read the group a poem about the Adopt A Highway litter pickup. Refreshments were served and Bessie Arthur won the door prize. The next meeting will be March 4 at 7 P. M.

In an earlier report on the condition of Barbara Jane Fluharty it should have been noted that her friend, nurse Donna Cain, was key in her treatment and recovery.

Prominent Spencer farmer and cattleman Victor Kirby recently celebrated his 93rd birthday and seems to be doing well. He was on hand Friday morning for a viewing of the property in a suit brought by Wyoming County resident Wiley Dorsey against Robert Caim. Others on hand included Attorneys Rob Tebay & Thomas N. Whittier, surveyor Rick Prine, Frankie Mowrey, Charles & Donald Jack Boggs.

Mary Ann Taylor, a bureaucrat at the U. S. Department of Transportation advised, in a letter to a fellow who complained last year that there are no overweight coal trucks on the roads in West Virginia PERIOD. The local writer would like to meet Ms Taylor and sell her some ocean front property in Spring Valley. It may be true that coal trucks do not often go through Harper's Ferry, Buck Run, Lucky Hill, Little Rowell (Hippie Hollow), but . . .

Local residents continue to follow the debate over the nasty situation in Babylonia. The lefties in France and Germany do not want Iraq to be disturbed since, it seems, they fear being found out for helping Saddam concoct and build all his nasty weapons. A number of local residents who proudly wear our nation's uniforms are heading out for that region help "solve" the problem. One national leader recently noted that Saddam and friends faced "grave" consequences.

The new owners of the former Westvaco property have an aggressive program to cut the pulpwood on the land. In Wood County they are harvesting 11 year old pine trees and, it is said, they have no plans to replant anything. Some wonder if they plan to strip the land and then sell out. While title is held in the name of the Heartwood Fund the identity of the actual owners remains a mystery.

The local price of Pennsylvania grade crude rose to $31/bbl while natural gas something over $4 in most cases. The higher prices quoted on the "merc" will be paid later [and after about 17% is deducted by the pipeline companies].

NISOURCE announced that they were taking Columbia Natural Resources off the market as no one "placed a reasonable bid" on the company. It was understood that they were going to sell the Trenton/Black River leases in New York as a bid, commensurate with the value was received there.

Although the Oriskany and Newburg formations were cased off in Columbia's deep well on Canoe, water from the Helderberg went down hole caused swelling in the Rose Hill formation. At last report they were trying to ream out the hole so they could run pipe before drilling into the Trenton.
