May is here and with it comes a host of holidays and special occasions, including Mother's Day, graduations and Memorial Day. May is also Older Americans Month.
This annual celebration of older adults was developed in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens as a way to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country â in particular, those who defended our country.
Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in and around various communities. As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates and more, they offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. That's why Older Americans Month has been recognizing the contributions of this growing population for 56 years.
The national theme of Older Americans Month this year is Connect, Create, Contribute. The focus is to encourage older adults to:
⢠Connect with friends, family and services that support participation.
⢠Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health and personal enrichment.
⢠Contribute time, talent and life experience to benefit others.

May 1st, Roane Home Care Bingo beginning at 11:00 am.
May 9th, Ripley Shopping Trip, departing at 8:30 am.
May 10th, Diabetic Foot Care Presentation at 10:30 am.
May13th, Mother's Day Dinner beginning at 11:30 am.
May 14th, Spring Health Fair, 7-10 am in Arnoldsburg at the Community Building Lab Work and Vendors with information. Complimentary breakfast served by Arnoldsburg Elementary School.
May 15th, Rock Painting Class beginning at 9:30 am.
May 17th, Genesis Bingo beginning at 11:00 am.
May 20th, Corn Hole Tournament beginning at 10 am.
May 21st, Beckley Trip - Exhibition Coal Mine, New River Gorge, Tamarack and more! Departing the CCCOA at 8:00 am. Must pay at the time of signing up.
May 22nd, Craft Class beginning at 9:30 am.
May 23rd, Cash Bingo Night - Doors open at 5:30 pm and Games begin at 6:00 pm.
May 24th, Memorial Day Game Day, beginning at 10:30 am.
May 29th, Covered Dish Birthday Dinner and Musical Entertainment beginning at 10:30 am.
