E-4 Jamie Starcher and wife Brenda
A pretty fair sized crowd was on hand at the Wirt County Senior Citizens Center in Elizabeth to wish E-4 Jamie Starcher
well
as he goes onto active duty. His parents are Bernard "Bunk" and Kathy Starcher of Burning Springs. Having served for
seven
years in the 1092nd Engineers' Battalion of the Army National Guard at Parkersburg, he said he'll put all his training to good
use in the near future.
His current orders will take him to Fort Bragg, North Carolina for more training. After that, his destination is uncertain. His
wife Brenda has indicated she'll keep everyone posted on his whereabouts as much as possible.
It seems just a few days ago, at most (several years, actually - how time flies) that he was among the youngsters in the
Christmas plays at the local church for which I played the piano. The slender little "Wise Man" I remember seems to have
grown up and now, it feels very different to stand face to face with a soldier.
Jamie will have the thoughts and prayers of his family, friends and community with him while he's away, and we're already
anticipating a Welcome Home party when he comes back.
