PARKERSBURG AND JACKSON LIVESTOCK MARKETS CLOSED - Under Review After Checks Bounced

(02/06/2003)
The Parkersburg Livestock Market is apparently closed and "under administrative review," according to the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.

Several checks have reportedly bounced, according to recent customers with the stockyards. An investigation will be completed by the Packers and Stockyard Administration, according to an officer with the WVDA.

The PSA will determine whether the Parkersburg market and another market in Jackson County can open or will be closed. The livestock markets are owned by Ron and Elaine Wilson of St. Marys.

The Wood County site is located in Mineral Wells, while the Jackson County business is in Fairplain. The Parkersburg Livestock Market has operated in the area for 20 years. There are 13 USDA-approved livestock markets in West Virginia.
