REGULAR MEETING
CALHOUN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
FEBRUARY 3, 2003

COUNTY OF CALHOUN: At the Office of the Superintendent, Grantsville, West Virginia; Monday, February 3,

MEMBERS PRESENT: Ralph Cunningham, Richard Fitzwater, Carlene Frederick, Donald Harris and Burl Simers
Ronald Blankenship, Secretary
ABSENT: None
The meeting was called to order by President Fitzwater at 7:00 p.m.
MINUTES:
Mr. Cunningham moved and Mrs. Frederick seconded that the minutes of the January 6, 2003 meeting be approved.
Motion carried with Mr. Simers abstaining.
REPORTS:
Mr. Cunningham reported on the January 21, 2003 CGCC Administrative Council meeting.
Mrs. Frederick reported on the January 22, 2003 RESA Executive Board meeting.
Mr. Blankenship reported on the Board Goals Calendar.
Mr. Cartwright introduced Michele Scott from the Educational Alliance and Bill Jackson from Columbia Gas who presented
Jo Mollendick with a classroom mini-grant.
NEW BUSINESS:
An open expulsion hearing was held for student 2002-03/04. Mr. Simers moved and Mrs. Frederick seconded that the
Board enter into executive session at 7:58 p.m. for discussion of student hearing. Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Simers moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the Board reconvene in regular session at 8:16 p.m. Motion carried
unanimously.
Upon the Superintendent's recommendation, Mr. Simers moved and Mr. Harris seconded that student 2002-03/04 be
expelled for the remainder of the school year and required to attend evening ALC classes and anger management
counseling. Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Simers seconded that the following new business be approved as presented:
A. Lights On Proposals
B. Graduation Policy - approved as presented
C. Volunteer Agreement - Jackie Jarvis - Arnoldsburg School
D. Student Transfer - Ashley Miller (9th grade) from Roane County to Calhoun County
Motion carried unanimously.

Upon the Superintendent's recommendation, Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Harris seconded that the following matters

ADJOURNMENT:
Mr. Cunningham moved and Mr. Simers seconded that the meeting adjourn at 9:09 p.m. with the next meeting February 17,
2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Arnoldsburg School. Motion carried unanimously.
