A boy found his mother unresponsive in a gas station bathroom after the woman drove him from Braxton County to Morgantown, left him in a vehicle in the parking lot and took drugs that nearly killed her, court records said.
Amber N. Thompson, 29, of Frametown is charged with child neglect with risk of death or injury after the Sunday incident, according to a criminal complaint filed in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.
Monongalia County deputies responded to a reported drug overdose on Venture Drive and found a young boy, about 11 years old, on a cell phone and crying. EMS was working on a woman, later identified as Thompson, who had a dirty needle next to her and a band still tied on her arm.
Drug paraphernalia was spread out around the woman's body. The complaint said the woman was not breathing on her own, and EMS was preparing to use Narcan on her.
The boy told deputies he had no idea why they were in Morgantown or why his mother drove him there. He said she was in the bathroom for about 15 minutes before he found her inside unresponsive.
Deputies questioned Thompson when she woke up, and she said she did not remember where she bought the drugs, did not remember driving her son to Morgantown and had no explanation as to why they were there, the complaint said.
Thompson is currently being held in North Central Regional Jail on a $10,000 property/surety bond. |
