William Larry Burgess, Sr., 75, of Ravenswood, formerly of Spencer, went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 27, 2018, following an extended illness.
He was born September 22, 1943 at Spencer, a son of the late Erma Burgess Schwender, and was raised by his grandparents, the late Coleman and Bertha Burgess.
William attended Spencer High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was self-employed in the timber industry for several years. His hobbies included hunting, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his mother and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Ann "Kay" Burgess; half-brothers, Donald, Richard, and Johnny Schwender; and a half-sister, Doris Schwender.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, William Larry Burgess, Jr. and wife Melissa of Ravenswood, and Thomas Michael Burgess of PA; half-brothers, Roger and Bruce Schwender; and grandchildren, Zachary Coleman Burgess, and Mia Catherine Burgess.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 30, at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jack Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Otto Cemetery, near Spencer. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the time of service.
