Helen L. Hamilton
Helen Hamilton, 90, a long-time resident of Grantsville, WV, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in the memory care cottage of Spring Arbor of Fredericksburg VA.
Helen was born November 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Dallas R. and Gene Hope Kight. They lived in White Pine WV, until displaced by the flood of 1943. She graduated from Calhoun County High School and was later involved in organizing the all-class reunions.
She married local attorney, the late Victor Hamilton, and was active in many civic and church activities. She excelled at knitting and baking German chocolate cakes, and she and her husband enjoyed making stained glass. They also had a large collection of carnival glass and traveled to auctions throughout the country to add to their collection.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her sister, Janet R. "Peggy" Kight and her two sons, Victor III and Roger.
She is survived by her daughter Janet and son-in-law Theodore R. Coberly of Spotsylvania VA, and daughter-in-law Pamela Hamilton of Huntington WV.
She was proud of her grandchildren, Carolyn Coberly of Charlottesville VA, and Theodore H. (Beth) Coberly of Clayton NC. Even in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease, she experienced great joy from visits by her great-grandchildren, Katherine and Theodore J. also of Clayton.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday December 19, 2018, at Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church, 326 Main St., Grantsville WV with burial to follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before the service. The services will be conducted by Stump Funeral Home and Cremation, Inc. and officiated by Pastor Rick Metheney.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Knotts Memorial United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross.
