Winners have been announced in several anti-tobacco contests in Calhoun schools.
Contests were developed by the Calhoun Tobacco Prevention Coalition.
Coordinator Carlene Frederick said different coloring pictures were given for grade
levels. The 3rd and 4th grades drew an anti-tobacco picture. Some of the winning
pictures were made into place mats, used in local restaurants, school cafeterias and
at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center for the Great American Smokeout.
First, second and third place winners were chosen in each grade, all receiving
T-shirts, bookmarks and a certificate.
The winners at the Arnoldsburg School were: pre-school, Boston Evans, Dustin
Holcomb, Mary Grace Hodo; kindergarten, Tiffany Brannon, Deana Hall, Miranda
Patterson; first grade, Stephanie Hall, Brooklyn Smith, Megan Barton; second grade,
Kristyn Starcher, Lacy Proctor, Belinda Summers; third grade, Barret Evans, Amber
Wilford, Sarah Beth Lane; fourth grade, Allison McCumbers, Michelle Hall, Jacqlynn
Marie Snell and Ryan Glen Smith.
The winners at Pleasant Hill were: pre-school, Ethyn Miller, Laura Webb, Riley Cain;
kindergarten, McKenzie Hicks, Tiffany Ann Rush, Tyler Sims; first grade, Cameron
Sampson, Steven Rich, Courtney Lewis; second grade, Mercy J. Roberts, Megan
Harts, Philip Norman; third grade, Allison Gumbarevic, Darrenger Fluharty, Katelyn
Bunch; fourth grade, Autumn Harkins, Joe Overbaugh, Brooklyn Talley.
"I would like to thank the Principals, Mr. Stinn and Mrs. Tetrick, all the teachers and
the students for helping to educate about the dangers of tobacco use," said Carlene
Frederick.
