Vance G. Gainer, 85, of Walker died Jan. 31, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Calhoun County, a son of the late A.D. and Sadie Knight Gainer.
He was a graduate of Wirt County High School and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was retired from the Pacific Intermountain Express in 1976 as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 24. He was a member of the VFW Post 1212 and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by three sons, Captain Vance Glen Gainer Jr. USN, stationed in Japan, Glenadine Scheifer of Gassaway, W.Va., and David Alvin Gainer of Burnt House, W.Va.; two daughters, Deborah Kae Jones of Freeport, W.Va., and Dienna Lynn Jeffries of Gassaway, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; two step granddaughters; one step great-grandson; three sisters, Thelma Smith and Jean Fowler of Parkersburg and Pauline Newell of California; and one brother, Alvin Gainer of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green Street, Parkersburg, with Pastor Randy Dornon officiating. Burial at K of P Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and until the time of service Monday.
