The Clay County Commission asked for $100,000 in Budget Digest grants for the Clay County Ambulance Service at their
meeting yesterday. The money would be used to pay off a $100,000 loan from the Bank of Gassaway borrowed by the
Clay County Emergency Ambulance Authority, which is no longer providing service.
Calhoun Commissioners during January's meeting asked Delegate Bill Stemple to give priority for additional funds for a new
Emergency Services Center, requesting $100,000 from the digest. The county, with the assistance of Del. Stemple and
others has obtained over $200,000 in grants annually in the past few years. This years digest is expected to be cut because
of the state's financial condition.
Del. Stemple advised the Commission he has already obtained $90,000 for the project.
The current EMS/911 facility at Mount Zion is in serious disrepair, and a new home for emergency services has become
necessary. The new facility would also house the Office of Emergency Services.
