Ernest Ray Hathaway, Sr., 71, of Parkersburg

Ernest Ray Hathaway, Sr., 71, of Parkersburg received his Creator's call on December 3rd at 7:10 a.m., at his residence, surrounded by the family that loved him. His death a result of three years battling multiple myeloma and associated amyloidosis. Ern was born December 22, 1946 at the home place on Phillips Run Grantsville, WV, to Orvan "Todd" and Eulanee (Stump) Hathaway. Ern is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of fifty-two years, Carol (Richardson) Hathaway; son, Ernest Ray Hathaway (Candy), Jr., Summerfield, OH; daughter, Shannon Stephanie Offenberger (Joshua); and granddaughter, Anna Caroline, of Vienna, WV. Ern is survived by his brother, James David Hathaway (Lorene), of Elkview, WV; and sister, Loretta (Hathaway) Propst (Roger) of Grantsville, WV; and a very special brother-in-law, Stanley Richardson of Vienna, WV. Ern has many loving nephews, nieces, extended relatives, and friends to cherish his memory.

Ern was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Richard Wayne Hathaway, Robert Amos Hathaway, Carlton Cadell Hathaway, and Raymond Wesley Hathaway; and also, nephew, Gregory Allen Propst; and niece, Jennifer Propst Miller.

Ern was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville, WV and a 1964 graduate of Calhoun County High School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1968. Sergeant Hathaway served with the 1st Air Calvary Division in Vietnam where he became a Purple Heart recipient. Upon return to civilian life, he began his 36-year employment career at E.I. DuPont, Washington Works. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETs and a member of the American Legion.

Lambert Tatman Funeral Home of Vienna, WV is entrusted with final arrangements. Celebration of Ern's life will be led by Pastor Steven Carter on December 7th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens where the American Legion Post #15 Military Guard will honor our soldier.
