The school year is halfway over now, and it's a good time to look at your son's or daughter's schoolwork. Not just his or
her grades; think about skills too. Does the student struggle with math, or take it in stride? Does the student read quickly,
with a good understanding, or is reading a struggle? Are the student's grades as good as he or she is capable of?
We have been working hard to upgrade the Lights On! tutoring program. We want to help every student become skilled
and successful. We offer tutoring from 4 - 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at Calhoun Middle and High Schools,
Arnoldsburg Elementary, and Pleasant Hill Elementary. The suggested schedule is two evenings a week for tutoring.
Both elementary tutoring programs are in the hands of strong, caring, skilled teachers-Charles Thomas at Arnoldsburg, and
Cynthia Dale at Pleasant Hill. Lisa Siegrist has, in the space of a few short weeks, transformed the Middle School program.
They meet in the school library, and it hums with activity each evening-quiet, controlled, and productive.
The High School tutoring program is led by Gary Knight. We have almost 400 students in the High School, and we are
seeing only one to three students per evening for tutoring there. Test scores show that many of our high school students are
weaker than their grades might indicate, and a number of students failed one or more subjects. Working together through the
tutoring program, we can change both of those things. But we need your help in order to help students.
To find out more about the tutoring program at the Middle or High School, or to make arrangements for your student to be
tutored, contact Donnie Price at 354-6148, extension 17. At Arnoldsburg, contact Dan Cosgrove, 655-8616, extension 3;
and at Pleasant Hill, contact Joyce Williams, 354-6022, extension 2. |
