KEVIN HELMICK
I am Kevin Helmick, I am a life long resident of Calhoun County. I am married to Kristy Helmick and have a 7-year-old daughter, Alexis Helmick. We live in Orma. My parents are Dennis and Cathy Helmick, also of Orma. My in laws are Forest "June" Roberts, Jr. and Joyce Roberts of Pleasant Hill.
I have worked for Helmick Brothers Contracting, Inc. for 23 years. I graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1998 and from Glenville State College with a bachelor's degree in business management and a Minor in Accounting in 2003.
As your commissioner, I have worked hard for the people of Calhoun County. With the help from the other commissioners, we have accomplished the following:
⦁ Negotiated with TransCanada to get the compressor station in the county.
⦁ Met with the Governor's office to get the state police to remain in the county and moved their offices to the courthouse.
⦁ Helped to establish the new ambulance service for the county.
⦁ Currently working with the administrators of the schools to get a police officer in the schools to protect the children.
⦁ Created a rainy-day fund for the county.
⦁ Voted against a pay raise for the elected officials while continuing to make sure our county employees kept affordable insurance.
⦁ Continuing to work with the "Dark Sky" project to attract tourism to the county.
⦁ While serving on the CRI Board, I worked to get the Little Kanawha Area Transit Bus service in the county.
⦁ Aided in obtaining grants to put the roof on, wheel chair lifts in, updated boilers, updated record keeping systems, 911 equipment updates, security cameras added, and central air installed in the courthouse.
⦁ Currently working on a system to allow the county expenses to be available on the internet to be more transparent with the county residents.
⦁ Serves/Served on numerous boards including: CRI/FEMA, Little Kanawha Area Development, established a planning commission to resolve county problems, Community Resources in Parkersburg, Workforce West Virginia, FRN, and ambulance authority.
⦁ Worked on board to create DHHR office in the county.
⦁ Worked on the Route 16 water line project and various other water projects.
⦁ Most importantly I treat people with fairness and equality.
I want to continue to work to improve and expand our county water lines, broadband, and phone services. Phone services to be improved include both landlines and cell towers. Businesses and communities can not grow without these essential items. I want to continue to look for ways to create more traffic in the county. I believe this is how you create ways for economic development and help our existing small businesses.
I want to help our kids and families believe if you work hard, you can make a good living in Calhoun County. Everything that has been accomplished thus far would not have been possible without beliefs and ideas of people working together to better our County. With your help, we can continue to move Calhoun County in the right direction.
On November 6th Vote Kevin Helmick (Democrat) for Calhoun County Commissioner.
CRAIG ARTHUR
My name is Craig Arthur, and I am running as an Independent candidate for County Commissioner.
I was born and raised here in Calhoun County. From an early age, I was taught to treat others the way God treats us. This is the most important thing in life after salvation.
I have been blessed with amazing role models who have taught me not only to treat all people with dignity but also the value of an honest day's work.
I graduated from Calhoun County with high honors in 2005. I later attended WVUP and Marietta College before finally landing at Glenville State College. I graduated from Glenville State College in 2012 with a bachelor's in science and a minor in psychology. I earned my teaching certification from Wheeling Jesuit University shortly thereafter, as I saw a need for science teachers in my home county. I am certified to teach chemistry, biology, physical science, forensic science, and AC Energy and Power.
By working in my home school for several years, I have made connections and acquired skill sets I believe will be beneficial for this county. For example, I have worked with several state and local officials to acquire numerous grants to improve the opportunities offered for students of this county.
I believe our students and economy should be our top priorities. If we don't provide new opportunities and improve our economy, how long should we really expect our young people to stay in Calhoun County? If elected commissioner, I promise I will use my connections and skills to improve opportunities for good jobs, increase activities for our youth, and work to grow small businesses. Finally, I will treat everyone fairly and honestly.
We need to recognize the great people we have in this county. We have so much untapped potential. This needs to be taken advantage of to improve the lives of all the citizens in this great place. Calhoun County will always have a special place in my heart.
I respectfully ask for your vote in November for a positive change for Calhoun County.
Thank you and God Bless,
