Fred Wesley Johnson, 96, of Palestine WV passed away September 28, 2018,
He was born in Springhill, WV the son of the late John Wesley and Alley (Williams) Johnson.
He was the last surviving child.
Fred served his county during World War II in the Pacific Theater, also served two tours of duty during the
Korean War, and was a prisoner of war for 28 days.
He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years.
Retired for the Carpenters Union out of Charleston WV after several years of service.
Enjoyed to go camping, fishing, hunting, his cats and most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He was baptist by faith.
He is survived by his fiance/caregiver of 23 years Virginia Simmons.
Daughter Carloyn Ward Barton of Mineral Wells,
grand children: Jessica Ward and David Ward,
his extended family
Frank (Norma) Simmons, Jackson (Sue) Simmons of Palestine and
Barb Sims of Elizabeth.
Their children: Tammy Tanner, Regina Simmons, Beverly Cheuvront, Donald Sims and Samatha Shields.
Special friends Sarah and Mike Robinson of Elizabeth WV
and Several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to both his parents his is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, brother and sisters
Ale, Lena, Clyde, Mildred, Louise, Lizzy, Bill , Keith, Arthur and Vivian, son in laws Butch Ward and Denzil Barton.
Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Leisure and Pastor Jimmy Johnson
officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service on Monday.
Interment will be at Two Runs Cemetery of Palestine WV
