LOGAN, W.Va. â Since its official release on January 1st by Woodland Press LLC, a Chapmanville-based publishing
firm, Dr. Charles M. Wood's book, Living The Good Life, Surviving In The 21st Century, has been accepted by
two national wholesalers, Baker & Taylor, Inc. and American Wholesale Books/Books-A-Million, according to a
Woodland Press spokesperson.
"With these alliances, we now have the potential for the title to be offered nationally," Tim Fortune, Woodland Press CFO
said Saturday. "We are pleased to have cultivated business relationships with these two prestigious organizations, in order to
offer Living The Good Life to an even wider audience.
"Baker & Taylor is currently the second largest wholesaler in the country, and American Wholesale is the predominant
book-buyer for Books-A-Million. We are now in negotiations with a national distributor, as well. We are very pleased with
the response we've had from Dr. Wood's fine book."
The release by The Logan Banner's favorite Sunday columnist offers a variety of thought-provoking short stories and
humorous yarns. As a pastor, professor, and newspaper columnist, Dr. Charles M. Wood, II has compiled many of his
favorite stories and reader submissions from the weekly column. The result is 208 pages of wit, wisdom and life-changing
anecdotes, which give practical answers to many of life's struggles.
"My father, Charles Wood, Sr., was an accomplished carpenter, who always worked with his calloused hands. Each
implement in Dad's tool belt performed a particular and necessary task. However, the tools couldn't perform the undertaking
by themselves. They needed someone â a skilled and able craftsman â committed to putting them to good use," Dr. Wood
stated in his manuscript.
Using his own words, Dr. Wood has himself become an accomplished craftsman in his own right, through his forty years of
ministry â an astute crafter of words. His tools: a keen observation of human behavior and a clever choice of words and
anecdotal stories, which work together to create a collection of inspirational or challenging messages.
"I'm simply speechless from the response to the book. I am so pleased that people seem to be interested. I hope that the
Lord is honored through its pages," Dr. Wood said. "My first book signing was a few weeks ago in Crewe, Virginia. It
turned
out to be a wonderful experience, and I am truly humbled by the many kind words people have spoken."
Dr. Wood's wisdom and his perception of the human condition have been gleaned in the trenches, so to speak.
Besides being
a distinguished college professor at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, he has authored several
textbooks, including Death And Dying For The Healthcare Worker. In addition, he still finds the time to listen to and
advise
countless local residents as a respected Christian counselor, although he never charges for his counseling services.
Many have stated that it is unusual that Dr. Wood pastors a church smack dab in the middle of the land of the Hatfield and
McCoy feud. However, ironically, much of his message in Living The Good Life is about reconciliation and
overcoming
resentment and bitterness.
Joanne Jeager Tomblin, president of SWVCTC. Who wrote the forward to his book, stated, "Since Dr. Wood recently
celebrated his 40th-year milestone in Christian ministry, I believe that this compilation of stories will stand as a worthy
memorial to those years of service and a testament to what he is really all about. This is a book that gives practical advice on
a
variety of modern day issues."
