Betty Frances Simmons Ingram, 88, of Spencer, West Virginia died peacefully Monday August 27, 2018 at the Roane General Hospital, Spencer following an extended illness.
Betty was highly respected and loved by all who knew her, especially for her intellect, kindness, and compassion.
She was born on December 26, 1929 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the youngest child of the late Donnie Annis Reed Simmons. Betty was married in 1950 to Victor E. "Vic" Ingram, who died in 2013. In addition to her mother and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two sisters, Zada and Wilma; and a brother, Paul.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Jean (Paul) Guerette of Bowdoinham, Maine, Vicki (Gordon) Rosenthal of Damascus, Maryland, Gayle (Tony Carts) Ingram of Mt. Airy, Maryland, and Kelli Ingram of Damascus; and her honorary daughter, Donna (Donnie) Scott of Spencer. Betty was blessed with six grandchildren, Elliott, David, Nick, Andrew, Elizabeth and Jonathan; one great-grandson, Felix.
Betty was a 1947 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1950 graduate of the Registered Nursing Program at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg. Betty and Vic moved to Spencer in 1959 where she worked as an RN in multiple capacities in the community, including Roane General Hospital and as an office nurse for R.W. Brown, M.D. After retiring from RGH, Betty moved on to new challenges including literacy tutor, computer aficionado, and author. She was most proud of a published book of short stories that she wrote entitled Peppermint Sticks and Banana Peels.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer. A gathering of friends and family will be held an hour before the service. Graveside services and burial will take place at 1:30 pm in the Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery in Waverly, West Virginia, also on Thursday.
