| SISSORS ATTACK - Dunbar police said a man armed with a pair of scissors attacked his girlfriend at a hotel where she works and was arrested at gunpoint.
James Kenneth Parr, 26, of Hudson, Fla., faces multiple charges after an incident that occurred Wednesday at the Dunbar Plaza Hotel.
The hotel employee told police that Parr was her boyfriend, and he previously came to the hotel and caused a disturbance and left after she contacted police, the complaint said. The suspect later returned and the woman and her co-worker ran and locked themselves into a back room.
Parr reached over the counter and grabbed a pair of scissors and left the building, the complaint said. Police said his girlfriend left the back room and ran to lock the main doors, but Parr began to bang on the doors, forcing them open.
The suspect began waving the scissors around and threw his girlfriend to the ground. Police said the woman told them she was on her hands and knees and Parr stole her cell phone and stomped on it.
He then grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her across the lobby. The complaint said he took the cell phone and twisted it, destroying the phone.
When an officer arrived at the scene, the suspect was standing in front of the hotel, jumping around and facing the patrol car. Police said the man took an aggressive stance, holding his hands up hear his face with a pair of scissors in his right hand and his left fist clinched. The suspect then made a motion with his hands, waving the officer to come to him, police said.
The officer pulled out his weapon and ordered the suspect to drop the scissors. Police said the suspect initially refused to drop the weapon, but finally tossed it onto the sidewalk. He was ordered to the ground. The man resisted efforts to be handcuffed and officers had to physically place him in the patrol car, police said.
Parr is charged with breaking and entering, assault during the commission of a felony, domestic battery and malicious assault. He is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond or 10 percent cash.
THROWS KNIFE- An Elkins man has been charged with malicious wounding after an altercation Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, officers responded after a physical altercation at a residence in the Chenoweth Creek Road area. The victim told police that they and 21-year-old Brian Shepherd had gotten into the fight. They said that during the fight, Shepherd threw a knife, striking them in the arm.
Shepherd is charged with malicious wounding. He is currently in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
LOVER'S QUARREL SHOOTING - A family is relieved no one was hurt after police say a teenager fired three gunshots at their crowded house before 1 a.m. Wednesday in Huntington.
A person who lives in the home that was shot said they've been receiving threats for weeks, and they say it's all over a lovers' quarrel.
A couple high school students live in the house with their grandmother. Some of the kids had friends over hanging out at the time of the shooting, nine people inside.
Police say after the shooting, the suspect's vehicle was stopped nearby going the wrong way on 3rd Avenue.
Officers believe 18-year-old Thurman Hinkle from Salt Rock, who was in the back seat, fired the shots. They say 18-year-old Madison Kimball was driving the car, and a juvenile was in the front passenger seat.
The residents said they had been getting threats for weeks, the woman suspect has been in an ongoing domestic dispute with a man who lives in the house.
Hinkle is charged with nine counts of wanton endangerment. Kimball and the juvenile are charged with being accessories to the shooting.
