Richard Lee Smith, 84, died Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Maranatha Rehabilitation Facility, Springfield, Mo.
He was born at Frozen Run, the son of the late Charles Spurgeon and Enid Cooper Smith.
He was a 1951 graduate of Calhoun County High School. In the late 1950s, he moved to Grants, N.M., and worked in the uranium mines. In 1977, he moved to Springfield. He was a member of Laborers Union 676 and worked at Johnson Construction Co. and at Prestressed Casting Co. before retiring in 1993.
Surviving are three sons, Michael of Houston, Tex., Charles of Spring Creek, Nev., and Kevin of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Chad, Amy, Luke and Kyle; two great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Jade; two brothers, Edwin Lowell of Missouri and Jack of Ohio; three sisters, Patricia Debow of Missouri, Dormal Meeks of Florida and Ruby Thompson of Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and five brothers, Calvin, Lester, John, Emmons and an infant.
