CBS television may be backing away from the revival of "The Beverly Hillbillies," a
reality-based program where a pick-up truck will take some hillbillies to Hollywood, a
fish out of water "fun" show.
Media reports says CBS is dampening expectations for "The Real Beverly Hillbillies,"
that borrows its premise from the hit 1960's sitcom, likely since they read an article
written by The Herald's associate editor Dianne Weaver this week.
Actually, The Center for Rural Strategies has been placing ads protesting the series.
Network officials say the show is still very much in the discussion stages, and no
schedule has been announced.
Many residents of rural states have complained that the show will perpetuate a
"hick" stereotype. Casting is being conducted in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia,
Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
Media reports say the Fox Network is working on a new reality series that will send
two young celebrities to a farm for six weeks, where they will feed chickens, milk
cows and wash dishes. |
