| Judge Anita Ashley held Circuit Court in Calhoun County last week.
Calhoun Prosecutor Shannon Johnson said Michael Hall appeared for a jury trial, entering a plea of guilty to daytime burglary, a felony, and to petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Hall will be sentenced on May 16.
Bryant Hall, who was facing charges related to burglary, appeared for a jury trial with the state moving to dismiss the case without prejudice due to new information and evidence that was recently disclosed to the state by the defendant. The Court granted the motion and dismissed the case without prejudice to the state, said Prosecutor Johnson.
Michael Cain appeared for a jury trial related to child abuse, his attorney moving to continue trial. The court granted his motion and the case will be set for jury trial at a later date.
Austin Dailey, Melissa West, Dylan Little, and Joshua Settle all appeared for jury trials. Their attorneys moved to continue their trials on August 21.
Prosecutor Johnson said the court held jury selection in cases against Travis Moore and George Parsons. Trial was set to begin for Travis Moore following jury selection with Moore charged with obtaining money under false pretenses related to construction work which was not completed.
After a brief recess Moore accepted the state's offer and entered into an agreement for a two year pre-trial diversion with the State. As part of that agreement, Moore agreed to pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $10,857.00.
Judge Anita Ashley returned to Calhoun Circuit Court for the jury trial of George Parsons. Prior to opening statements, Parsons agreed to accept the state's plea offer.
Parsons entered a plea of guilty to domestic battery, third offense. Two misdemeanor charges were dismissed and the case was set for sentencing on May 16.
Judge Anita Ashley heard nineteen juvenile cases and also heard a motion to reduce or modify bond filed on behalf of Thomas Cain. The court denied the motion.
