MOBILE PRODUCE MARKET VISITS PLEASANT HILL SCHOOL

(03/23/2018)

The Mountaineer Food Bank, the West Virginia Family Nutrition Program and the Calhoun County FRN coordinated a mobile market for the students of Pleasant Hill Elementary School on March 9th.

Laura Phillips, Child Hunger Program Coordinator drove a van filled with produce to the school. After donning their milk mustaches, each student received a special bag that was filled with recipes, magnets, and stickers. Then they walked through a line of happy volunteers who filled their bags with spaghetti squash, onions, sweet potatoes, assorted fruits, and shelf stable vanilla and chocolate milk.

Each student also received a voucher for a free gallon of milk from the Dairy Council.

The mobile market day was funded by a Disney Grant received by the Mountaineer Food Bank.

As you can see from the pictures, the students were excited and all smiles. Tina Persinger, Director of Calhoun FRN, said, "We would like to thank our other volunteers; Janet Gherke from CRI, Kerry Gabbert from the Family Nutrition Program headquarters in Charleston and Garnet Husk."

"We would like to especially thank Amy Nicholas Principal, and Secretary Deb Goff for all their help and assistance in making the activity such a huge success." Persinger, said.
