Rumors of a student bringing a weapon to Calhoun Middle School continue to float around the community. They are just rumors, according
to Principal Michael Offutt.
"There were no guns or dangerous instruments," nor were the police called, which became
part of a substantial rumor.
The rumor has circulated in the community since last Thursday, taking on different
variations. "There is no evidence of such a problem," said Offutt.
"We are are always concerned about problems relating to the safety of our students," he
said, and "will continue to investigate such events."
Offutt said the rumor likely started from what amounted to an allegation that two or
more girls were passing inappropriate notes, possibly making some threatening
statements.
The principal said he and other school administration had received numerous calls about
the rumor. "It took on a real strong life," he concluded.
