West Virginia State Police in Roane County say Jacob Andrew Young, age 25 (left) has been charged with attempted murder, arson and nighttime burglary.
According to the criminal complaint, around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers were dispatched to Charleston Road in Walton in regards to a burglary.
Dispatchers said the caller stated he woke up to discover a stranger in his residence and had to physically remove him from the dwelling.
Investigators say the victim said he was woken up by his dogs barking. When he walked into the living room, he found a man standing there saying "it's okay, I have been talking to her." The victim told the man to leave and when he didn't, he had to physically escort him out.
The victim went to make sure the man hadn't broken into his father's residence, which was about 20 yards away. When he came back, he discovered the man went back into his home using a spare key that was hidden on the porch, according to the criminal complaint.
The victim then noticed the back of his house had been burnt in several places, creating the risk of burning his home to the ground while he and his family slept inside, investigators say.
Troopers say they found a black nylon bag next to the victim's vehicle in the driveway. They also say they found a torch, a wallet with license and social security card for Jacob Andrew Young, and other documents.
According to the criminal complaint, the trooper had prior knowledge that Young was involved in two prior 911 calls over the past few days.
The trooper was able to talk to the individuals involved in those calls, who were able to identify the evidence the trooper found on scene. They also said Young was with another person. The trooper was also given pictures of both Young and the other individual.
The trooper showed the pictures to the victim who could identify Young, saying he was the one he escorted out of his residence.
Young was arrested in Clendenin.
Clendenin Police Department and the Kanawha Sheriff's Department assisted with the arrest.
WVSP is investigating.
He is in South Central Regional Jail with bond set at $300,000. |
