Nila Lee Smith, 86, formerly of Vienna, WV passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, after a brief illness.
She was born on April 19, 1931, to Clay and Esther Francis of Grantsville, WV who preceded her in death.
She leaves behind her husband of 67 years, Ernest R. Smith, formerly of Vienna, WV, who continues to reside in Wilmington, NC; her sister Doris Ann Williams of Glenville, WV; daughters Christine Pfund (Greg) of Wilmington, NC, Terry Reale (Phil) of Charleston, WV and Leland, NC, and Susan Dulaney (Rick) of Palm Harbor, FL; five grandsons, Chris Dulaney of Morgantown, WV, Brett Dulaney of Palm Harbor, FL, Philip Reale, II of Teays Valley, WV, Anthony Reale of New York City, NY and Grant Pfund, of Somers Point, NJ; and, three great grandchildren, Mya Dulaney of Morgantown, WV, Matthew and Brian Dulaney of Palm Harbor, FL.
She highly valued the importance of an education and delighted in the accomplishment of her daughters having achieved college and university educations and, later, in the educational attainment of her grandsons. This would be a very important part of her legacy.
Nila was a 60 year member of Vienna Baptist Church in Vienna, WV. She actively participated in many of the church's ministries. She was an angelic lady with a warm smile and loving heart, who loved to cook, bake and share the bounty of her tasty goods with all who visited her home. She was especially known among many of the members of the Vienna Baptist Church for her delicious orange pineapple delight cake. She loved flowers and was an active member of the Vienna Garden Club. She won numerous awards for her artistically crafted flower arrangements. Among her other hobbies, she was an accomplished quilter and skillfully made beautiful quilts for family members and others as gifts to commemorate special events and occasions, each creating a special memory.
She was retired from St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg where she worked as a physical therapist assistant. Her compassionate way contributed to the successful rehabilitation of her many patients.
A celebration of the life of Nila Lee Smith will be held at Vienna Baptist Church in Vienna, WV on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery at Mt. Zion, WV.
