Ora "Jack" Ray Smith 82 of Newton, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 15, 2018 at his home surrounded by his wife and daughters. Jack fought a long and hard battle for more than five years with his chronic illness.
He was well known in the community and loved by all. His devotion to God and his family was evident in everything he did. Â
He is survived by his wife Ina Jean Smith; daughters Sharon Smith of Newton, Karen Roush (Randall), Debbie Joyce (Todd) of Charleston WV and Carol May (Don) of Newton;Â sister Emogene (Delmas) Tingler of Williamstown, WV; and brother Jarrett (Sharon) Smith of Newton.
Jack had 16 grandchildren, Heather, Jerica Chelsey, Garrett, Rachel, Gabrielle, Caleb, David, Adam, Emily, Taylor, DJ, Katie, Kayla, Zachary and Danny and 2 great-grandchildren Adelyn and Jacob.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Dennis and Beulah Smith of Looneyville, WV, sister Nadine Witt of Parkersburg, WV and grandson Jeremy Smith of Newton.
His Pall Bearers will be sons-in-law Todd Joyce, Don May, and Rob Roush; grandsons Garrett Hall, DJ Fox, Zachary Joyce, Ryan Gibson and Rob Waugh.
He was a business owner and a retired foreman for Pete Gould Pipeline. He also was a member and former trustee of the Newton Baptist Church. Â
Services will be officiated by Rev. Steve Arbogast, Rev. David McGlaughin and Rev. Ronnie Fisher at John H Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer WV.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 6-8p m. Funeral services will be Friday January 19 at 1 pm with burial service at the J. Herbert Smith Cemetery, Looneyville, WV.
