Linda Kay Smith Knotts, 55, of Mineral Wells died Jan. 4, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born March 31, 1947, at her grandmother's Edgelawn home in Parkersburg, a daughter of Olandus Coleman and Nannie Mae McCoy Smith of Macfarlan.
She was a graduate of Harrisville High School, class of 1965, and the Parkersburg Beauty College. She married James Earl Knotts of Calhoun County on Nov. 12, 1965. She worked as a hairdresser in Parkersburg for several years, then as a homemaker who devoted her life to loving and caring for her family, friends, and many babies through the years, all of whom she showered with affection.
Mrs. Knotts had a deep love for domestic and wild animals, feeding everyone's cats and dogs, as well as the birds, deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, raccoons and even skunks. She was an active member of the Pettyville United Methodist Church, serving in many leadership capacities and giving unselfishly of herself in Christian ministry to others.
In addition to her husband of 37 years and her parents; she is survived by her mother-in-law, Hazel Knotts of Grantsville; one daughter, Aleacia Peer and her husband Michael of Halifax, Va.; one granddaughter, Ashley Peer of Halifax, Va.
One sister, Diana Evans of Mineral Wells; two brothers, Robert Smith and his wife Phyllis of Mineral Wells and Richard Lewis and his wife Susie of Davisville.
One brother-in-law, Thomas Knotts and his wife Beverly of Corning, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Norma Knotts Schaffer of Grantsville; five nephews, Robert Evans and his wife Tonda of Mineral Wells, James Smith and his wife Marsha of Parkersburg, Strod Lewis of Muskogee, Okla., Christopher Knotts and Adam Knotts of Corning, N.Y.
Seven nieces, Cindy Lemon and her husband Paul of Mineral Wells, Kimberly McClead and her husband Sam of Parkersburg, Saebra Pauley and her husband Michael of Parkersburg, Sharon Shaffer of Elyria, Ohio, Jean Schroeder and her husband Steve of Owensboro, Ky., Carol Myers and her husband Steve of Round Rock, Texas, and Roberta Jo McKee of Kayser; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, Cecily, Tyler and Cole Evans of Mineral Wells, Tiffany Lemon of Mineral Wells, Samantha McClead of Parkersburg, Jared and Colette Pauley of Parkersburg, Mark Shaffer of Elyria, Ohio, Joshua, Rachel, and Sarah Schroeder of Owensboro, Ky., Nigel Myers of Round Rock, Texas, and Kristina and Jerry McKee of Kayser.
Mrs. Knotts was preceded in death by one brother, Olandus "Buddy" Smith; her father-in-law, Robert Joseph Knotts Jr.; and one brother-in-law, Dallas R. Evans.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, the Rev. James Arbogast officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Pettyville United Methodist Church, Pettyville, W.Va.
