Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center announces the following Lights On! classes/activities for second semester. You may register for any of these classes by calling the Lights ON! Office at 354-7595.

Beginner's Quilting-Wall Hangings, Terri Stalnaker 4 Mondays, Feb. 10- Mar. 3, 6 - 9 p.m. Learn basic skills to complete a wall hanging, rotary cutting, sewing, and primitive quilting techniques. Participants must furnish sewing machine.

Flat Reed Intermediate Basketry, Joyce Cain 6 Mondays, Jan. 6 - Feb. 10, 6 - 9 p.m. Make two large baskets with swing handles. (Class is full, however, you need to register for a waiting list for future classes.)

Microsoft Word, Linda Jones 6 Tuesdays, Jan. 14 -Feb. 18, 6 - 8 p.m. Learn the basics of word processing with Microsoft Word or you may use this opportunity to enhance existing skills.

Pen and Ink Drawing, Larry McCallister 5 Tuesdays, Feb. 11-Mar. 11, 6 - 9 p.m. Learn the skills necessary to create pen and ink drawings.

Picture Matting and Framing, Larry McCallister 3 Tuesdays, Mar. 25 - Apr. 8, 6 - 9 p.m. Learn the techniques necessary to cut a mat and frame your supplied picture.

Off-Loom Bead Weaving, Linda Jones Spring 2003, 6 sessions, 6 - 8 p.m. Learn several off-loom beading stitches including the peyote stitch and the brick stitch to complete projects.

Wildcrafting and Herbal Remedies - Phase II, Linda Jones Summer 2003, TBA, 6 sessions, 6 - 8 p.m. An extension of previous class. Focus will be on plants available in July and August. Fieldwork, identification, and hands-on projects.

An Appalachian Spring Fling Saturday, April 5, 2003, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. A food, craft, and informational fair followed by a presentation by "The Mountain Women", National Storytelling Champions. (Watch for additional information.)

Custom Woodworking, Ada Overbaugh Mon. and Tues. 8 wks-16 sessions, Feb. 24 - Apr .15, 6 - 9 p.m. Participants will build a custom bookshelf. FEE: $50 or you may supply your own lumber and waive the fee. (Subject to Board approval.)

Flat Reed Basketry, Joyce Cain 6 Mondays, Feb. 17 - Mar. 10, 6 - 9 p.m. Weave three holiday baskets (Easter, St. Patrick's Day, and Mother's Day). Color, curls and twining. (Subject to Board approval.)

Beginner's/Intermediate Quilting, Terri Stalnaker 6 Mondays, TBA, 6 - 9 p.m. Learn the art of piecing and quilting a wall hanging using primitive quilting techniques. Participants must furnish sewing machine. (Subject to Board approval.)
