A man raced up the West Virginia
Turnpike yesterday running through all three toll booths. The chase ended when he crashed his
vehicle and was shot by a State Police
trooper near a Charleston exit.
Details
remain sketchy but State Police say the
man drove through the toll booths and
then crashed his vehicle after exiting the
turnpike near Charleston.
Senior Trooper Jay Powers says
authorities are trying to determine what
caused the trooper to shoot the man.
State Police have not released the man's
name or the trooper's.
Turnpike officials alerted troopers
that the man had run the toll booths, but
they didn't have the staff on hand
to respond, said Powers.
It wasn't until the driver reached Charleston
that a trooper made contact with the
vehicle.
The man has undergone surgery.
