With just a couple of days left to go in the buck firearm season in West Virginia, hunters have killed more than 40,000 deer.
Statistics from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources show that as of Wednesday hunters have bagged 40,833 deer. Buck firearms season runs through Saturday.
The DNR said the official number will be lower because some of the "bucks" checked were actually antlerless deer incorrectly entered into the wrong season by the hunter.
Counties with some of the highest number of deer taken are Preston, 1,805, Randolph, 1,497, and Greenbrier, 1,487. |
