A Wood County deputy sheriff is on desk duty pending the outcome of a grand jury review into the shooting death of
suspected drug dealer Bryan Paul Causey of Kanawha County.
Causey was shot by 25-year veteran Captain Rick Woodyard after Causey fled in a pick-up truck, landing it in a ditch and
then taking aim with the vehicle toward task force officers.
Officers tried to arrest Causey during a methamphetamine drug sting, when he ran.
After the West Virginia State Police said they will be using more video cameras in cruisers to record what happens during
regular traffic stops, The Hur Herald has requested information about video taping of the Wood County drug sting.
The planned string involved a large group of task force officers. In most cases such a sting would be recorded by police
agencies to validate a sequence of events, provide evidence and protect officers of unnecessary allegations. The FOIA
request regarding video taping was submitted to Ginny Conley, Wood County Prosecuting Attorney.
The grand jury will meet January 13th to determine if any action will be taken against Woodyard.
An Elkview woman who exited the truck before the shooting, Lucy Rhodes, 30, has yet to be charged with conspiracy to
manufacture methamphetamine, although supplies were found in the truck. |
