(09/17/2017)
A well-known Wirt County man, Howard Charles McCoy, 76, of Elizabeth, has died after being in critical condition in a Morgantown hospital following a single-vehicle crash last Friday on Route 5.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. south Parkersburg with Pastor Delmas Stutler officiating. Burial will follow at K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth with Masonic graveside rites. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

According to a spokesman for the West Virginia State Police, McCoy was driving on Route 5 near the Elizabeth bridge when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the right side of the road and over an embankment.

The spokesman says McCoy, who was alone in the vehicle, might have suffered a medical emergency that led to the crash.

McCoy came of age on the historic Fairfax Farm near Annamoriah. See FAIRFAX stories on the Hur Herald.
