The Calhoun School Board selected Jason Walker Monday night to fill a vacant seat on the local school board, following the resignation of Steve Whited.
School officials said Walker is not an employee of the system, that being a conflict of interest to run for the board.
Walker had previously applied to go through the substitute bus operator training, but pulled his application and will not move forward in completing the training, now that he has been approved as an official board member.
Walker is well known as a community volunteer.
The other two candidates considered were Richard Kirby and Patrick Bell.
