In Calhoun County, the past 25 years, soldiers from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars dutifully erected flagpoles and flags in dozens of Calhoun and regional county cemeteries, mostly by the VFW Post in Grantsville.
Calhoun had among the highest number of soldiers proportionately serving in World War II.
Most of those old soldiers are now deceased, with few remaining to take up the task of honoring Old Glory.
Now, the local VFW has closed.
