Velma Faye Norman age 82 of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life on the evening of Tuesday April 26, 2016 at the Glenville Care and Rehab Center in Glenville, following an extended illness.
Born June 10, 1933 in Calhoun County, West Virginia, Velma was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Edna E. Hardway McCumbers.
Velma retired from the Conrad Motel in Glenville. She enjoyed listening to music, quilting, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Velma was also a Pentecostal by faith.
On October 30, 1949, Velma was united in marriage to Walter Norman, who preceded her in death on December 12, 1965.
Surviving are 4 children, Dale Norman of Glenville, Thelma Norman of Glenville, Wanda Bush of Ritchie County, WV; and Shelia Davidson and husband Richard also of Ritchie County, 1 brother, Rondal McCumbers of Spencer, WV; 1 sister, Edith McCumbers of Spencer, WV; 1 son-in-law, Michael Heater and wife B.J. of Burnsville, WV; and 1 sister-in-law, Kathy West of Spencer, WV.
Also surviving are 3 grandsons, Larry Bush and wife Samatha, and Adam Davidson both of Ritchie County, WV; and Christopher Heater and wife Kandy of Parkersburg, WV; 3 granddaughters, Vickie Lamb and husband Mike and Ciera Davidson both of Ritchie County, WV; and Diana Holmes of Sand fork, WV; 2 great granddaughters, Brittany Lyons of Sand Fork, WV; and Aryllya Utt-Heater of Parkersburg, WV; 4 great grandsons, Adam Heater of Burnsville, WV; and Auyn Utt-Heater, Rhyun Utt-Heater, and MJay Dennison, all of Parkersburg, WV.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, many friends, and a granddaughter of the heart, Brittany Large and family of Cedarville, WV; and long time friend, Alma Cole and family of Glenville, WV;
Along with her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by 1 brother, Preston V. McCumbers and wife Hazel, 2 sisters, Thelma Low and husband David and Vera Cottrell and husband Haymon, and 2 son-in-laws, Larry J. Bush and Tom Campbell.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV at 1:00 PM; Friday April 29, 2016 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Stalnaker Cemetery in Glenville. Friends will be received from 12 noon-1:00 PM; Friday afternoon, April 29, 2016 at the mortuary.
In Lieu of flowers the family of Velma Faye Norman request memorial contributions be made in her honor to the Gilmer County Fire Department, Gilmer County Ambulance Service, Gilmer County Public Library, or memorial of your choice.
