Dorotha Jean Cramer Turley, 80, of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away peacefully after a short illness in the presence of her family at Hubbard Hospice House West in South Charleston on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
She was born June 21, 1935 in Grantsville, West Virginia to the late George William "Bill" Cramer and Dortha Juanita Garretson Reese.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert "Bob" Turley; granddaughters, Lori Jo Turley Neubert and Kimberly Alison Turley; step-father Ira Reese, sister Tira Lee Reese, and maternal grandparents Oscar Lee Garretson and Dolly Jane Garretson who were instrumental in raising her as well as an uncle, James M. Garretson.
She is survived by her son, Chris (Lisa) Turley; daughter, Robin Turley; grandchildren, Leslie Turley, Abbigail and Austin Michels, and Ethan and Landon Turley. Sister, Bobbie (Freddie) Buffaloe; and brother Bill Cramer Jr.
Dot was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Hurricane. She was a retiree from the West Virginia Department of Highways Material Controls Division. She attended Morris Harvey College. While attending Morris Harvey she was a member of the cheerleading squad and belonged to the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She is a graduate of Calhoun County High School.
She was an active member in the University of Charleston Builders Club and the University of Charleston Athletic Network. She was a supporter of the West Virginia Symphony and the former Community Music Association. She was a long-standing leader and member of the Federation of Democratic Women of Putnam County. Dot had an active role with the Putnam County Democratic Club and served on the Putnam County Executive Committee.
Dorotha was fondly known by her friends and family as "Doph" or "Dot." She loved and was dearly loved by her family and friends. She made a huge contribution to her community in many capacities. She was an avid West Virginia University Mountaineer Sports Fan, especially Men's Basketball. She was a regular attendee of many University of Charleston sporting events. She enjoyed her life by spending time with her family and many friends. Dot enjoyed reading and taking an active role in politics.

A tribute to the life of Dot Turley will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane with Sr. Pastor Jack Lipphardt, cousin officiating.
