A well-known Calhoun and Roane County Baptist minister, Rev. Dorsey Marks, has
died at age 99 in Orville, Ohio. He passed away December 14, 2002 in Dunlap
Hospital.
He was an ordained Baptist minister for over 50 years, having pastored churches in
several regional counties, but will best be remembered for assisting with revivals,
hundreds of them, in West Virginia and Ohio.
He had a radio ministry in Spencer on WVRC at one time and was a member of the
Spencer Tabernacle.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Taylor-Vandale Funeral
Home in Spencer with the Rev. Leon Strickland and the Rev. Gary Bowen officiating.
Burial will be in the Gandee Chapel/Ward Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Rev. Marks was born at Leatherbark in Calhoun County in 1903, son of the late Thomas G.
and Alice Pierpont Marks.
He is survived by sons, Grover of Pennsylvania, Albert of Orville Ohio, Gene of Middleburg Heights
Ohio and Ronald of Seville Ohio; eight grandchildren and several great and great-great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Wagner (married one year) and his
wife of 73 years, Sylvia Sawyer Marks; also a son, great-granddaughter, four
brothers and two sisters.
