DEPUTY SHOOTS MAN WITH GUN - Officials are investigating after a deputy sheriff shot a suspect while investigating a report of a domestic dispute at the Pinnacle Creek Campground in Wyoming County.
Sheriff Randall Aliff said that a deputy arrived on the scene to find a man with a rifle. Aliff said the deputy told the man to lower the weapon, but he allegedly raised it, leading the deputy to fire.
Officials have not released the suspect's identity or condition.
Aliff said the deputy has been placed on leave while the shooting is investigated, which is standard procedure in such cases.
SHOOTIN' TANKS -
A reported vandal has caused several thousands of dollars in damage to a Putnam County Public Service District water tank on Ventroux Road outside Scott Depot.
The damage is the result of someone shooting the tank multiple times, said Scott Jones, communications coordinator for the Putnam PSD.
"At some point between mid January and late February, someone vandalized the tank," Jones said. "We don't know if they were trying to pierce it, but it's safe to say they intentionally caused the damage."
Jones said the tank is secured by a gate on the road, but the vandal cut the lock. Piles of burned trash also were found near the tank. The gate has since been secured and security increased, Jones said.
The Putnam PSD board is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Jones said the 120,000 gallon tank supplies water to several hundred customers in the area and that repairs will likely cost thousands.
Jones said the cost of repairing the tank will put a strain on the PSD, which has other projects that need funding.
