Clara Helper Carper, 87, of Walton, West Virginia, passed away March 1, 2016, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, from complications of pneumonia.
She was born September 24, 1928, on Johnson Creek, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Zubie Taylor Helper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carper; son, James Larry Reed; and sisters, Minnie Freeman and Tuskie Drennen.
Clara was a lifelong resident of Roane County. She was a retired cook from Roane County Schools and had previously worked for Kellwood Company, Spencer. She was a loving mother, Momaw and Great Momaw. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and caring for her cats, Molly and Nosey Rosey.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Paul Cummings of Walton; son, Lewis Summers of Pinch WV; grandchildren, Rebecca (John) Rogers of Pinch, Ben (Karen) Cummings of Spencer WV, Lori (Jake) Nichols of Pinch, Sara (Jeremy) Stricklen of Walton, and Suzanne (Joe) Rector also of Walton; great grandchildren, Cameron, Lakin, Katie, Colleen, Salem, Libby, Zoey, Kari, Hayden and Jonah.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Jackson General Hospital and Ravenswood Care Center for their special care.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Hubbard Cemetery, Walton.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
