William R. Goff Jr., 92, of Parkersburg, passed away, after a brief illness February 27, 2016, at Camden Clark Medical Center at Parkersburg.
He was born July 23, 1923 at Parkersburg, a son of the late Iva DePue Goff and William R. Goff, M.D.
Bill was retired from the oil and gas industry, where he was an active investor and was involved in other businesses. He enjoyed skiing, reading, history, particularly military history and was a supporter of the Parkersburg and Wood County Library, where he was a regular visitor as long as his health allowed. He was a life-member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He graduated from Parkersburg High School and had attended West Virginia University and Marietta College.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending time in England and France, where he assisted in reestablishing local governments in areas of occupied France retaken by Allied Forces. He again served from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict, earning the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars.
He is survived by several cousins including, Christine Hedges, Daniel F. Hedges, Marilyn H. Byrne, Mary F. Hedges, John M. Hedges, Anne Hedges, David J. Hedges, Katherine Hedges and Elizabeth Adams-Eilers; and his very good friend and caretaker, Robert Saunders.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, in 1996, by his wife, of 29 years, Anne Pianelli Goff; and by cousins, Gregory V. Adams, Charles F. Adams, M.L. Sprigg and Jack Sprigg.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg. The Reverend Sandy Runnion will officiate and entombment will be in Evergreen North Cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. |
