Orville Clyde Dotson, 91, of East Manatee County died December 11, 2002 in Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida.
He was born in Wirt County West Virginia August 5, 1911, the son of William Dountain and Mary Emma Miller Dotson,
he was one of ten children.
As a young man he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and was stationed in northern California. He
graduated
from Glenville (WV) State Teachers College and earned a Masters Degree from West Virginia University. He was an
educator and served as a principal and teacher in WV, Ohio and St Petersburg, Florida. He taught at Calhoun County High
School from 1940 to 1954. He taught and was principal in Lancaster OH from 1954 until 1961, when he moved to St.
Petersburg. He taught at St. Petersburg High School and Dixie Hollins High School until he retired in 1973. He moved to
Manatee County FL in 1978, where taught adult Sunday school classes at nearby Bethany Baptist Church and served as
the "East County Weatherman" for the Bradenton (FL) Herald newspaper for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Pauline Walker Dotson and 3 children: Erroll Walker Dotson of
Wickenburg, Arizona, Betty Dotson Renick of Myakka City, FL and Patricia Dotson Christenson of Patzcuaro, Mexico,
one
brother, Charles Henry Dotson of Ohio, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Bethany Baptist Church at State Road 64 and Verna Bethany Road in Manatee County
on Monday December 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. Shannon Funeral Home of Bradenton, FL is in charge of
arrangements. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
donations
may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church.
