Ethyn Miller hit 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter as Calhoun County held off visiting Roane County, 56-47, Thursday night.
Miller led the Red Devils with 22 but it was his deadly shooting from the foul line in the fourth quarter that made the difference as the Red Devils pulled away at the end to even their record at 8-8 heading into tonight's game at Clay County.
Miller was backed by Zack Yanero with 15 points and Dylan Heiney with 12. Austin Gribble added four Ben Frederick two and Caden Hicks one. Dakota Jarvis, Sonny Wilson, Trevor Carder and Nick Murphy all played but did not score.
Despite scoring only four Gribble came up big on the boards with nine rebounds while adding three assists. Heiney led the Red Devils with four assists while Yanero added three and Miller two.
Roane, 9-8, was led by Devin Heeter with 16including four three-point shots in the first half. He was the only Raider to hit in double figures.
He was backed by Brandon Moore and Cole Ashley with nine apiece, Kaleb Greathouse with eight, Drew Kinder with three and Caleb Moore with two.
Greathouse led the Raiders with 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Roane is home tonight to Webster County. After playing at Clay tonight Calhoun returns to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. In the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament (WVHIT) against Valley Fayette at Robert C. Byrd High School in Clarksburg.
