FOURTH-RANKED WEBSTER STAYS UNBEATEN WITH 79-59 WIN OVER CALHOUN

Dalton Gray poured in 33 points to lead Class AA fourth-ranked and unbeaten Webster County to a 79-59 victory over visiting Calhoun County Wednesday night.

The Highlanders were unable to pull away from Calhoun until early in the third quarter when they enjoyed a 24-9 advantage. Calhoun managed to cut the lead back to 10 in the fourth quarter before Calhoun sent in all the subs about midway through the period By the time Webster, 11-0, send in the reserves the lead had been pushed back to 20.

Gray was backed by Travis Williams with 17 while Robbie Cogar added nine, Cogar only needed 14 points coming into the game to break the 1,000-point plateau but he suffered and injury to his knee before that could happen.

Dylan Heiney led Calhoun with 18 while Austin Gribble added 12 and Ben Frederick 11. Ethyn Miller had nine, Zack Yanero six and Caden Hicks three. Yanero was in foul trouble much of the way before exiting with fouls early in the fourth. Dakota Jarvis, Sonny Wilson and Trevor Carder all played but did not score.

Webster County also won the junior varsity game behind Dorian Groggs' 18 points.

Wilson score nine to lead Calhoun while Hayden Richards added eight, Carder, Hicks and Nick Murphy had six each. Frederick had four, John Long three, Noah Allen two and Levi Gregory and David Marks added one apiece.
